Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett spoke at the meeting of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society on Saturday, February 27. She gave an exciting and informative program on the topic of Jane McManus Storm Cazneau, 1807-1878. Mrs. Cazneau was an early journalist, Texas land-speculator, and friend and correspondent to numerous influential people such as Aaron Burr, Stephen F. Austin and John C. Calhoun. Mayor Everett gave the presentation in mid-19th Century costume. Members enjoyed the program immensely and many expressed relief that clothing styles have relaxed in 200 years.
The meeting accomplished much important business, including a preview of future Society meetings and workshops in development, a by-laws change and a review of how the Genealogy Library will be operating in the near future while COVID restrictions are in place.
The next meeting of the Genealogical Society will be on March 27. at a location to be announced.
