Aanonson / Aanonsen - Family cemetery located on private property. From the VZC Courthouse, drive west on Hwy. 198 for one mile, turn right on Road 253 and travel 8.7 miles to FM 47 going south for 4.4 miles. Turn left on VZCR 2701 and travel for .9 mile. The cemetery is on the right. |
Allen / Enas / Oakes - Small family cemetery located on FM 773 about .8 mile south of I-20 near the intersection of FM 773 and VZCR 1995. There are many unmarked graves here, or graves marked by field stones. Someone placed a sign at the entrance that it is "Owlet Green" Cemetery, but this is in error. It was never known as the Owlet Green Cemetery, but it is located on the edge of what was the Owlet Green community. |
Allen / White - From the county courthouse, take Hwy 64 northwest for 9 miles, turn left on VZCR 3406 and continue for another 2 miles. turn left on VZCR 3416, continue .1 mile, then turn right on VZCR 3407 and travel down this country road for .8 mile. The road deadends at an old frame house. The cemetery is about one-quarter mile past the old house in a pasture. Permission to view should be obtained from Dale Young, who lives nearby. |
Alsa / Howell - From the VZC Courthouse, travel 14 miles northwest on Hwy. 64 to the intersection of US 80 and FM 47 in Wills Point. Turn right and cross the railroad tracks and continue north through Wills Point for .5 miles, then turn left on FM 751. Continue 7 miles to VZCR 3817 and turn right. The cemetery is .2 miles on the left and about 100 yards from the road. |
Aly - This cemetery is located on private property. Take Hwy 64 for 4 miles, turn right on VZCR 4106 for 4.3 miles. Ben and Jean Griffith own the property in which the graves are located. Contact them prior to visiting. |
Asbury - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 east for 10.2 miles. Turn left on FM 279 and travel 8.9 miles. Turn right on State Road 2339 and travel 4.3 miles. The cemetery is on the right. |

Big Rock - Located on VZCR 2901 on private property. To get there from the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 south and travel 13.5 miles. Turn right on Hwy 1861 and travel for 5.6 miles. Central / Center / Shields - Cemetery is on a hill overlooking the countryside south of the Sabine River. To reach the cemetery from the VZC Courthouse, travel east on Hwy 64 about one mile and turn left on FM 17. Continue about 17 miles to Grand Saline. At the traffic light on Hwy 80, travel west about one mile to Waldrip Street. Turn right and continue north until it turns into CR 1810. Go north to the Pentacostal Church. Turn right around the church on CR 1804 for about half a mile and gates of the cemetery will be on the right. |
Chinquapin - located on VZCR 2904. From VZC Courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 south for 10 miles. Make right turn on FM 1256 and travel 2.5 miles. Make left turn on VZCR 2916 and travel 3 miles. Make a left turn on VZCR 2904 and travel 4 miles. Cemetery is on the left. |

Creagleville - One of the largest cemeteries in the county. The oldest marked grave is 1864. Located at the intersection of the Old Dallas/Shreveport Road and CR 1818. From the VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 4 about .8 miles and turn left on FM 17 for about 9 miles. Take CR 1818 1.3 miles to the east gate entrance. |
Daniel - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 northwest and travel 7.6 miles and turn left on VZCR 3403. Travel about .3 miles to the cemetery on Old John Bolt farm directly across from the Gammon Cemetery. |
Dave's Retreat - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 north 1.2 miles to I-20. Travel east on I-20 to FM 773. turn left and go over the overpass. Travel 2.1 miles on FM 773. Turn left on VZCR 1316 and travel .5 miles to VZCR 1319. Turn left again and travel .5 miles. About 200 yards off the road to the left is a small grove of crepe myrtles. |
Dickerson - From VZC Courthouse, go south on Hwy 64 and turn left on FM 17. Travel about 100 yards then turn right on CR 1255. It is about 14 miles to the intersection of CR 1255 and FM 857. Turn right on FM 857 and continue 2.75 miles. Cemetery is located on left about 300 yards from the road on private property. |
Douglass - Single grave located on private property on the A.H. Brown survey east of Hwy 19 and about .7 miles north of the Henderson County line. The grave is only a few feet from the house. |
Douthit - Family cemetery approximately 3 miles east of Canton, just off Hwy 64. It is on a hill about 5 miles west of the southeast corner of the J. Douthit Survey. |
Edgefield - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 northwest to FM 859 to Edgewood. Cross US 80 in Edgewood. Almost through town, turn on Oak Street, then travel .3 miles to intersection of Oak and Lee streets. |
Edom - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast 10.2 miles. Turn right on FM 279 at Ben Wheeler and travel about 8.9 miles. Cemetery is on left side of the road just before getting to downtown Edom. |
Elliott - Small family cemetery. From VZC Courthouse, go west on I-20 to FM 47. Take VZCR 3910 and travel west about .7 miles. Turn right on VZCR 906 and follow for about half a mile. Cemetery is on the left. |
Ellis Chapel - From the VZC courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 .5 mile. Turn right on FM 859 toward Edgewood. After about 9.5 miles, turn left on VZCR 1929 and proceed 2.6 miles. Cross the railroad tracks and turn left on VZCR 3504. Proceed to VZCR 3501 and turn right on unpaved road. Travel about 1 mile to cemetery gates. |

Flatwood Assembly of God Church is on the left side of the road. Cemetery is behind the church. It is suggested permission be obtained from the church before visiting the cemetery. |

Geddie-McPhail - Located on private property owned by Russell Howell family. From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 4.3 miles. Turn left on FM 16 and travel 7.6 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4517 and .9 miles to Howell farm at VZCR 1263 to ask permission and directions. |
Gipson - This cemetery has almost completely disappeared. It is located about 5 miles north of US 80 on VZCR 1806. |
Gray - This is the oldest cemetery in Van Zandt County. It was located on FM 2909 on the William S. Nixon farm. In October 1968, the tombstones were moved to the Holly Springs Cemetery. There were 13 graves but only 10 stones. One of the marked stones was for a burial in 1850, which is the oldest marked stone in the county. |
Greenwood - African American cemetery. From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 northwest for about 14 miles to first signal light in Wills Point. At the intersection of US 80 and FM, turn south and drive 3 blocks Continue straight south on 4th street about a mile. Cemetery is on right at the curve in the road. |
High - Located on VZCR 2520. From VZC Courthouse, travel 1 mile west on Hwy 298 to Hwy 243. Travel 4.3 miles west on Hwy 243. Turn right on VZCR 2501 and travel north 1.4 miles. Cemetery is on corner of VZCR 2501 and VZCR 2520. |
Highland - From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 northwest and travel .6 miles, turn right on FM 859 toward Edgewood. After about 5.1 miles, turn left on VZCR 3204 and travel about .4 mile. Cemetery is on right next to Highland Assembly of God Church. |
Hillcrest - Located at the intersection of Trade Days Blvd (Hwy 19) and Groves Street in Canton. The main entrances to the cemetery face Trade Days Blvd. Originally called the Canton Cemetery. During the 1930's the local garden club cleaned up the cemetery and renamed it "Hillcrest". |
Holly Springs - Located on VZCR 4403. From VZC Courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast 7 miles. turn right on VZCR 1653 and travel 3.9 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4403 and travel about a mile. Cemetery is on the right side of road at the top of a hill. |
Ingram - One of the oldest cemeteries in the county. Oldest marked grave is 1858. Ingrams were early settlers in the county, arriving before 1850. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast 10.2 miles to FM 279. Keep right at juncture and travel 13.9 miles, going through Edom. Cemetery is on right side. |
Jacobs - From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 20.2 miles. turn left on VZCR 4907 and go 2 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4908 and travel .1 mile. Turn right on VZCR 4909 and travel .5 mile. Travel .8 miles to VZCR 4910. turn on VZCR 4911 and travel .6 miles. Cemetery is at end of the road. |
Johnson / Scott - located on private property on VZCR 3424. There are two readable graves, one broken crypt and other unmarked graves. |
Jones - On the Jordon farm located between Van and Grand Saline on Hwy 110, approximately .75 mile southeast of the intersection of FM 1255 and Hwy 110. This is pasture land now. All the markers are broken. |
Jones - From the VZC Courthouse, travel .5 mile northwest on Hwy 64. Turn right on FM 859 and continue 11.3 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1395. After 3.4 miles, turn left on FM 3704. About .4 mile and 400 yards off the road to the right. Cemetery is located on private property and visitors are not allowed. |
Kennedy - located on private property on VZCR 1651. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 198 south for 6.6 miles Turn right going west on VZCR 1651 1.5 miles. Cemetery is in pasture on the left side of road. |
Kuykendall / Bratcher - located on VZCR 1121. From VZC Courthouse, travel .8 miles southeast on Hwy 64 and left on FM 17. Travel 7 miles to intersection of VZCR 1121. Turn left on VZCR 1121 and travel about 1 mile. Cemetery is in grove of trees on right. There is very little left, but several broken above-ground stones may be seen. |
Liberty - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 south 13.7 miles. Turn left on VZR 1861 and travel 3.4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2339 and travel .5 mile. Cemetery is on right side of road. |
Lide - located on VZCR 1110. From VZCR Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast about .8 miles to FM 17. Turn left and travel about 7 miles to VZCR 1110. Turn left and cemetery is .5 mile on left. Located on Herbert Fisher farm. |
Marvin Chapel - this is all that is left of the Owlet Green community. Located on VZCR 1995. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 north 1.5 miles to I-20. Travel east on I-20 13.3 miles to FM 314. Turn right and go south .5 miles. Turn right on VZCR 1995 and travel .7 miles. Cemetery is on right side of road. |
McBee - Family cemetery located on private property owned by Mr. Sparks on VZCR 3804. there are no headstones to mark the graves, only rocks. Cemetery was cleaned and field surveyed in 2000. 32 graves were determined. |
Moody - Located on private property owned by Waylon Parker between Fruitvale and Edgewood. Anyone wishing to visit the graves should call Mr. Parker and make arrangements. There are 2 headstones, but it is believed there are at least 6 graves in all. |
Moore (Old J.V. Wilson) - There is only a trace of the Moore Family Cemetery located on Jesse V. Wilson place. One-fourth acre was deeded to Moore family. From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 5.7 miles. Turn right on VZCR 3419 and continue 2.5 miles. Few fragments of the Moore vaults are under trees to the left. |
Morence - From VZC Courthouse, travel north on Hwy 19 for 14 miles, then turn left on FM 859 1.8 miles and right on VZCR 3710 for 3.2 miles. Cemetery is on right side of road. |
Morris (China Grove) - located off FM 1256. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 south 10 miles. Turn right on FM 1256 and travel 2.5 miles. Cemetery is on small hill on the right. |
Morris (North Grand Saline) - Located on VZCR 1806. From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 miles to FM 17, then towards Grand Saline to the intersection of FM 17 and US 80. Turn west on US 80 and travel 2.5 miles to VZCR 1806. Turn north and travel about 3.6 miles and cemetery will be on the right. It has been vandalized at least twice, but traces of it still remain. This is one of the older graveyards in the county. It has not been used since 1900, according to the dates on the tombstones. |
Morris Chapel - Located on VZCR 4106. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4106 and travel about one-fourth mile. Cemetery is on right side. |
Mt. Lebanon - Located behind the Baptist Church on FM 17. From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about 1 mile. Turn left on FM 17. Continue about 6 miles to cemetery. |
Mt. Pisgah - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast 4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4106 and travel .8 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4105 and travel about 1 mile. Cemetery will be on left side of road. |
Myrtle Springs - From VZCR Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 46 miles. go under I-20 overpass. Turn left on service road and continue 1.2 miles, across VZCR 2537 and into the cemetery. |
New Harmony / Primrose - Located on VZCR 4903. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 north 1.5 miles to I-20. Take I-20 east 13.3 miles to FM 314. Turn right going south and travel 5.6 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4903 and travel about 1 mile. Cemetery is on left. |
New Hope - From VZC Courthouse, travel northeast on Hwy 64 5.6 miles to FM 1504. From western edge of Myrtle Springs, travel 3.4 miles on FM 1504 to VZCR 3420. It is 1.6 miles to cemetery located at the intersection of VZCR 3420 and VZCR 3415, which is part of the historic Old Dallas/Shreveport Road. |
Oak Hill - From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 .5 mile to FM 859 and turn right at light. Travel north 9.5 miles to Pecan Street. Turn left and continue .3 miles west. This cemetery is on a hill overlooking the railroad (from Graveyards of VZC, Vol C, published by VZC Genealogical Society. |
Oakland - Cemetery located on VZCR 1255. From VZC Courthouse, travel about .8 miles southeast on Hwy 64. Turn left on FM 17. After about 100 yards, turn right on FZCR 1255. travel 6 miles to cemetery, which is on the right side. |
Old Langford - Designated as a "lost Cemetery". Located near the town of Myrtle Springs, according to a biography of George Washington Scates written by descendant, Charles Edward Rhodes, and may have been located near what is now the intersection of I-20 and Hwy 64. There are no markers and no indication of exactly where the cemetery was located. |
Old Northside (Edgewood) - From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 .5 mile. Turn right on FM 859 and travel 9.9 miles to two blocks north of Edgewood business district. Cemetery is on left side. |
Old Stone (Bush) - Located on Glencrest Ranch. From VZC Courthouse, drive southeast on Hwy 6 .8 mile to FM 17. From there, travel to VZCR 1712 and go east to Glencrest Ranch. Cemetery is one mile north through pasture to top of hill near Sabine River. |
Padgett - From VZCR Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile to FM 17. Turn left and travel about 100 yards, then turn left on VZCR 1255. Continue to FM 857. Turn east and travel 1.6 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1709. Cemetery is about one-quarter mile down road in a small groves of trees on the right. |
Pate - Located about one-fourth mile east of FM 17 and approximately 1 mile south of the Sabine River. |
Peterson - From VZC Courthouse, travel .8 mile southeast on Hwy 64 to FM 17. Turn left and after about 100 yards, turn right on VZCR 1255. Travel about 14 miles. At intersection of VZCR 1255 and FM 857, turn right and continue 2.75 miles. Cemetery is approximately 300 yards to north, on private property. Just across a barbed wire fence from Dickerson Cemetery. |
Phalba - Located on VZCR 2311. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 198 south for 11.2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 2311 and travel .3 mile. Cemetery gates are on the right. Main gate is kept locked, but there is a walk through on left side of main gate. |
Pleasant Hill - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 south 13.7 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1861 and travel 3.9 miles. Cemetery is by the church on the left side. |
Pole Town - From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile and turn left on FM 17. After about 15 miles on FM 17, turn west on US 80 and continue about 1.6 miles. Cemetery is 300 yards north of US 80 in a grove of trees. |
Pool Family - Pool Family Cemetery is one grave on private property about 1 mile from Van on Hwy 110. From VZC Courthouse, drive 4.3 miles southeast on Hwy 64 to FM 16, then about 9 miles to Van. Continue east on Hwy 110 1.9 miles and cemetery is on the left on private property. Permission is required to enter. |
Poor Farm - From VZC Courthouse, take trade Days Blvd (Hwy 19) to Debbie Drive until it merges with Denise Lane which dead ends at Forrest Drive. Cemetery is on the left side of Forrest Drive at this intersection. Although there are no headstones, court records identifies 20 people by name and 28 more as only "Pauper." |
Prairie Creek - Located on VZCR 409. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 20.2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4907 until it runs into VZCR 4908. Travel about .3 mile and cemetery is on the right. |

Riverside - Located on Spring Street in Grand Saline. From VZC Courthouse, turn left at intersection of Hwy 64 and Hwy 19 and travel to US 80. At intersection of US 80 and Spring Street in Grand Saline, turn north on Spring Street and travel 2.3 miles. Cemetery is on the left behind an aluminum gate. There are many unmarked graves. |
Rock Hill - From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 5.7 miles. Turn right on FM 1504. Continue 2.3 miles and turn left on VZCR 3419. Cemtery is .5 miles on the right side of road. |
Rocking G / Gilbert - From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 .5 mile. Turn right on FM 859. Continue north 11.4 miles to Edgewood. On north side of Edgewood, turn left on FM 1395 and travel 4.3 miles. Cemetery is on the right on a hill on Rocking G Ranch. Permission to visit must be obtained. |

Continue about 13 miles. On Hwy 110, turn left toward Grand Saline center. At traffic light, turn west on US 80. Continue about three-quarters of a mile, then turn right on Waldrip Street. Travel north on VZCR 1810 2.5 miles and take VZCR 1801. Travel about a mile. Cemetery is on left side of road. |
Rohrer - One of the oldest cemeteries in Van Zandt County. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 south for 12.5 miles. Turn right on FM 1861. Travel 4.4 miles to home of Don and Joyce Blankenship which is on the left. Permission from owners to visit cemetery is required. |
Roseland Plantation - Only one grave is marked by homemade brick. Grave is believed to be that of Mr. Hambrick, owner of the plantation in pre-Civil War days. There are 19 other possible graves at the site. They are believed to be those of the slaves owned by Mr. Hambrick. To get there from the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast for 24 miles. Plantation is on the right site of the road. Permission is required to view cemetery. |
Rydens - The Ryden's Memorial is located on private property. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast to FM 16. Turn left and travel into Van. At four-way stop, turn left onto Hwy 110 going north. Travel 1.5 miles to FM 1805. Turn right and travel approximately three-quarter mile to FM 17 and turn right. Turn left at first cattle guard, cross the creek and go up the hill to a pond. The memorial plaque is at the edge of the water. |
Sand Flat - From the VZ Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast for .8 mile and turn left on FM 17. After about 100 yards, turn right on VZCR 1255 and continue about 14 miles. Cemetery is on the right. |
Silver Lake - Located on VZCR 1255. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 southeast for .8 miles, turn left on FM 17, and after about 100 yards turn right on VZCR 1255. Travel about 21 miles, cross railroad tracks. Cemetery is located across the road from the church. |
Small - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 north 14 miles. Turn left on FM 859 and travel 2.9 miles. Turn right on VZCR 3701. Cemetery is on the left next to Pleasant Union Baptist Church. |
Smith - Cemetery is on private land about 100 yards from the road. From the VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 and travel 10.2 miles to FM 279 toward Edom. East of Edom, turn right on VZCR 4803 and travel about 7 miles to a curve in the road. The little cemetery is located in a wooded area on the old Smith family farm. |
Starr - Cemetery located on VZCR 1215. From VZC courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about one mile to FM 17. Turn left on FM 17 and continue five miles. At intersection of FM 17 and VZCR 1215, turn right and travel two miles to cemetery. |
Tarver - Located on VZCR 2405. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 198 south and travel 6 miles. Turn right on FM 1641 and travel west 4.5 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2504 and travel north .9 miles. Cemetery is on left side of road. |
Tidmore - From VZC Courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 and travel south 13.7 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1861 and travel 3.4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2339 and travel 1.6 miles. Cemetery is on left side of road. |
Toumes / Venable - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 19 north to VZCR 3611. Turn right on VZCR 3613. Travel exactly one-half mile and park. Cemetery is 100 feet from the road on the right side. There is a chain link fence around the cemetery. |
Union Grove - From VZC Courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest 14 miles to intersection of US 80 and FM 47. turn north on FM 47 and go through Wills Point. Turn left on FM 751 and proceed west 2.7 miles. The Union Grove Cemetery and tabernacle are on the left in a grove of trees. |
Walters Family - This is almost a lost cemetery. A total of 80 plus graves are supposed to be at this site which is in a pasture. It is on private land. Only two markers remained standing in 1996. From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast to VZCR 4111. Turn right and then right again to reach cemetery. |
Wesley Chapel - Located on VZCR 2520. From VZC Courthouse, travel 1 mile west on Hwy 198 to Hwy 243. Travel 8 miles west on Hwy 243. Turn right on VZCR 2512. Travel .9 miles north. Turn right on VZCR 2520 and travel east .3 miles. Cemetery is on right side of road. |
White Rose - Located in Wills Point. This is the largest cemetery in the northwest section of the county. From VZC Courthouse, travel northwest on Hwy 64 12.8 miles to US 80, turn right and continue .1 mile and turn left onto Post Oak Road. Travel .1 mile to entrance. |
Woodall - From VZC Courthouse, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest .5 miles. Turn right on FM 859 and continue north 9.8 miles into Edgewood. Turn left on VZCR 1929. Travel .7 miles and cross railroad tracks to VZCR 3504. Proceed northwest 4.1 miles on VZCR 3504 and turn left on VZR 3502. Cemetery is down this road about .7 miles on the left. |
Woodside - From VZC Courthouse, travel .8 miles southeast on Hwy 64 and turn right on FM 17. Continue north 13.4 miles to intersection of FM 17 and Hwy 110. Turn north through Grand Saline business district to traffic light at US 80. Turn east and continue about .5 miles, then turn north on FM 17 for .5 miles. Entrance to cemetery is on right. |
Yarbrough Farm - Small family cemetery. From VZC Courthouse, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about 1 mile. Turn left on FM 17. Continue about 100 yards to VZCR 1255. Travel on VZCR 1255 about 6.5 miles and turn right on FM 1313. It is about 1.9 miles from here to gate of cemetery. Permission is required to enter cemetery. |
